Velodrome

Here's the very start of something potentially creative. Maybe this will get developed, but I put this much down in only 10 minutes at the end of my work day.

Silently, an assault is being made on a fortress in Frisco, TX. The rhythmic thump-thump of the wooden track, a swish of air and bright flash of color are the only evidence of attack as another cyclist tests their determination and strength on one of the least known strongholds of speed, power and endurance in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex.

This is a place where tenths of seconds are an eternity, speed is measured in gaping breaths and the best efforts are commonly followed by the heaving, wrenching reintroduction of one’s lunch. The war is waged on steeds constructed of carbon fiber, steel and aluminum; power is measured in watts and the battle is often against the clock, a foe that equals or bests your determination with the cruel expiration of precious seconds.

This is battle in a most pure and brutal form that rewards pain, suffering and complete muscle failure. Achieve these things, and the reward, if only felt within, bestowed upon the pained and spent rider is immeasurable pride. Pedal faster, breath harder, sweat more… Pain is your friend and your foe.
